French Trotting News - Grand Criterium de Vitesse de la Cote d'Azur

3 minute read

Stats Guide: Grand Criterium de Vitesse de la Cote d'Azur.

This Sunday, attention moves away from Vincennes, the headquarters of Trotting, to the south of France. Cagnes-sur-Mer will host the G1 Grand Critérium de Vitesse de la Côte d'Azur (1609m), which has enticed top-class performers over its history. In the last ten years, G1 Grand Prix d'Amérique winners Readly Express and Bold Eagle have taken the race, while the champion Timoko recorded four victories between 2013 and 2017.

This year's renewal has attracted another strong field, including G1 Grand Prix d'Amérique (2700m) second Davidson Du Pont, G1 Grand Prix de France (2100m) heroine Delia Du Pommereux and last year's winner Vivid Wise As. The Italian based seven-year-old remains unbeaten in three starts over this course and distance. The mares Délia du Pommereux and Bahia Quesnot have both won at Cagnes-sur-Mer, which will be a distinct advantage over their re-opposing rival Davidson du Pont who has never visited the seaside track. When looking for an each way chance, consider Elsa De Belfonds who might not have the proven Group One form of her opposition but has only missed the frame five times from 27 attempts at the venue.

The Italian-trained horses have been campaigned extensively over the 'mile' (1600-1610m) and boast plenty of experience in the speed test. Vanesia Ek is without the proven Group One form of her rivals but she has won six times at this distance. Likewise, Tamure Roc has found success or placed on more than 50% of her 27 attempts over the short trip.

*Runners with an asterisk might be missing international form.
