Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Picture: Korea Racing Authority

Ater a good trial, (6) MARU JANGGUN was unruly in the preliminaries prior to his racing debut on July 20th, parting company with his jockey on two occasions. Regardless, they ran well for 3rd place over this distance. He has since been sent back to trial which he came through in good order and with better manners today, should take some beating. (7) DANGDAECHOWOL put in a fair effort in his debut on June 16th, coming from off the pace to run 4th at 1300M. He has had nine weeks off since and can be a danger here. (1) BEATRIZ is more experienced with four top four finishes from six starts. At her latest on June 29th her apprentice jockey gave up his leading position somewhat tamely, something he won't do again after suitable chastisement, and his apprentice claim puts her right in this. Solitary debut-maker (8) NAMSAN MINAM looked well in two trials and can go well first-up. (4) ÉCLAIR POWER another in the placing frame having trialled well.

Seoul Race 2: Class 4 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 75 Million

Imported juvenile maidens here including one from the southern hemisphere, and six of the twelve make their racing debuts. After trialling well, (4) LUCKY FRANK was sent off as third favourite on debut over this distance on July 28th and he promptly came home in 3rd place having led for much of the way. He should have come on for the run, he can lead again, and this time can come out on top. (11) DREAM HONOUR beat three of these on his way to 2nd in a quick race over 1000M on debut on July 13th. He finished off with a remarkable final furlong time and he should be charging down late again with every chance.  (7) GWANAKSAN STORM won a trial before running 4th behind Lucky Frank on debut in that July 28th race. He too should have some natural improvement here. Among the debut-makers, (8) KONGNAMUL and (3) MATTERHORN K look the most promising at this stage.

Selections (4) Lucky Frank (11) Dream Honour (7) Gwanaksan Storm (8) Kongnamul

After two nice looking trials, (2) DONGNAM GANGTAJA was sent off as favourite on debut over 1200M on July 19th, but after a slow start and settling at the back, she never really threatened before running on for 5th. She should have come on for that run and ridden further forward here, she looks a winning chance. (9) ARION TAEYANG has a 4th, a 2nd and a 3rd from three starts so far at 1000M and 1200M. The slight step up in trip can suit and he will be there or thereabouts again with any top three finish giving him a rating and sending him to class 5. (7) BACK TO THE LADY was truculent on the way to the gate last time out on July 19th and then didn't have the smoothest of trips on her way to 6th place. We'll draw a line through that and instead go on her 2nd place two starts back which puts her in the mix here under the in-form Franco. (3) BLACK WAVE and (8) BINNANEUNGIL others in the hunt.

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(4) SCALE KING will be favourite here. That's based on his last start close 2nd place over 1300M on July 14th when he was close to the pace throughout. There isn't much speed in this race so he can lead, and this time can go one better. (6) MARUBYEOL enters off back-to-back 4th place finishes over this distance and a mile. A twenty-one-race maiden, he may not be a winning chance here but in this company, he can be aiming for a best to date finish. (1) POETIC NUBI has shown progress across three starts so far with her latest her best when 4th behind Scale King in that July 14th race. She may be ridden further forward today and can continue to get better. (8) SINUI UNMYEONG and (9) TROLL among others in the hunt.

(4) WONDERFUL BIDDER was a winner on debut over 1200M in May before running a smart 3rd on his first try at this class and distance on June 21st. That led him to be sent off as favourite at 1300M on July 19th but from gate ten he found himself back and then wide, only managing to finish 7th – albeit ahead of a couple of today's rivals. He comes into a better gate here, and with Munro aboard, he is worth another chance. (2) DOCTOR MEGA looks the main danger. After running 5th on debut, she got her maiden win in fine style at start number two over 1000M, leading all the way and doing the proverbial handsprings. She is up in class but caries a light weight, draws well, and can measure up. (6) SEOBU FLAME did nothing on her first two starts before running out a 40/1 winner at start number three on July 19th. It was over this distance, she led all the way, and the time was fair so while up in class, she'll warrant more respect this time. (1) QUEEN AND SERVE and (5) RAINBOW ROAD, the latter whose last disappointing start was in the same race as Wonderful Bidder, are others who may place.

(3) BUGANGJILJU shapes as a warm favourite. He got his maiden win at start number two in March before having three months out and then returning with a 2nd and a 3rd in two starts at this class, both over this distance. He likes to race on pace and is drawn very well to do so here and to go all the way. (9) WONDERFUL LORD similarly got his maiden win at the second time of asking and then ran 2nd in a fast race over 1200M on July 6th. He too should be challenging for the lead right from the start and has every chance here. (7) HEUNGHAENG BULPAE comes in off a win over this distance on July 14th. He comes up in class but is down in the weights and can be competitive at a probable each-way price. (5) CHEONGUCHAT and (8) MOON DUST are others to consider.

Busan Race 3: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Small but competitive field. (8) BLACK JILJU was a winner in an all-filly race at this class and distance two starts back before running 4th in a similar race on July 12th when racing on pace. In this small field, she should be able to find the lead and can potentially go all the way. (3) RUN TO QUEEN got her maiden win in fine style at start number six over this distance on July 19th, leading for most of the way around and stopping the clock in a time quicker than any of the others here have managed for 1200M. She is up in class but could well be the betting favourite to repeat. (7) SAENAE HIT enters off back-to-back 3rd places at this class. She is yet to win in ten attempts but should be there or thereabouts again. (4) BRAVE CAPTAIN and (1) VALHALLA others in contention for the minors.

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies (and two mares) only here. (8) STUNNING QUEEN got her maiden win in fine style on July 7th, making all and stopping the clock in a quick time over this distance. It was unexpected and she comes up in class here, but the manner of that win, couple with facing only fellow fillies, means she can repeat. (10) CRAZY SHAH is yet to score in seven attempts but has come close including when 5th on her first try at this class on August 3rd. She makes a quick return here and the wide draw shouldn't be a problem as she has a smart finish on her. (1) WONPYEONG GWANGYA led for much of the way around 1300M on July 27th, before ultimately finishing in 3rd place. Lightly weighted and drawn well, she can be on pace and in this a long way. (4) HIT FLY and (7) MENI SHARK others in the placing frame.

Busan Race 4: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(6) ACE FIGHTING returned from seven months out to run an on-pace 3rd in a fast race at this class and distance on July 21st. Both of her prior wins came at this distance and under a light weight and second up she can be on pace again and this time go all the way. (4) MADE HEEMANG comes in having beaten three of these when narrowly beaten in a fast race at this class and distance on July 14th, coming from well off the pace. He comes up 2kg on the weights but shapes as the main danger here. That July 14th race overturned the form on (9) TAEWANG SINGI, who was 6th in that race but had previously beaten Made Heemang and a couple of others who go here when 2nd at class and distance on June 14th. He carries his fair share of weight here but shouldn't be ruled out. (3) AMUR and (2) ROAD STAR other placing chances.

Seoul Race 6: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Competitive race. (6) RAON THE TAP has six top three finishes among nine starts so far and enters off 2nd place on his first try at this class over 1400M on June 29th when he led for most of the way. He comes back in trip and can win here. (2) DALBITJOGAKSA returns to action for the first time since last October. In her three starts as a juvenile she had three top three finishes including a win on debut and a runner-up finish (to the infamous Lala K) in the Rookie Stakes. She looked very well when leading all the way in a trial back in June and is not to be dismissed first-up. (3) CHAMJOEUN JILJU comes in having run 3rd at this class over 1400m on July 21st, beating a couple of today's rivals in the process. She should be in the finish again. The up in class (9) MR. TROT, along with (10) URUS KHAN are others in the frame.

Busan Race 5: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(7) COLOMBIA CHAMP has won her latest two, most recently at this class over 1200M on July 21st when handy throughout and posting a quick time. She only comes up 2kg in the weights and while it is her first time over 1400M, the distance shouldn't be a problem. (2) CHARON TODAY has been working back towards a 2nd win and is up in class here following a very smart 2nd place over this distance on August 2nd when leading for much of the way. The time recorded was quick and wouldn't be out of place at class 2 let alone class 4 so she should measure up here from a great draw. (5) MORPHEUS similarly recorded a very quick time when 2nd at this distance at class 5 level on July 14th having led. He is down 3kg in the weights and can be a danger. (4) JEOLDAE BOSS and (1) GIANT MARINE others to consider.

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(1) THE SUN FIGHTER has missed the top five only once in eleven outings and having won at this class over 1400M two starts back, he enters having run 3rd on his first try at a mile on July 21st when handy early and running on. An apprentice claims 3kg and he is the one to beta here. (3) GOMANARU doesn't win out of turn and mixes his form, but he comes back in trip after recent outings at 1800M that saw him pick up a couple of runner-up finishes at this level. Lim Da-bin knows him very well and from a good gate they can be in the mix. (10) QUEEN OF BEST got back-to-back wins to round out last year and then was out between January and July. On her return she ran 4th over 1400M on July 14th and under a light weight she can strip fitter here. (6) SAEROUN BITKKAL and (9) WONPYEONG QUEEN are other place chances.

Busan Race 6: Class 2 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

(3) ATLAS was not fancied in the market at all over this class and distance on July 14th, but she defied that by coming from off the pace and finishing a desperately close 2nd, beating a few of today's rivals in the process. She comes up 2kg in the weights but still only has 54kg, and she can win this. (5) I WILL BE FREE ran 3rd in that race, coming from off the pace. A month earlier, he also ran a close 2nd at class and distance and will be in the mix again. (7) GEUMA DISTINCTION comes up in class having won at this distance on June 30th, leading every step of the way. He carries a light weight and the time he ran that day would more than measure up at this level. (10) LUCAS SUN and (6) RISE THE THRONE other chances.

Seoul Race 8: Class 3 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(2) GIANT PUNCH returned to winning ways with a narrow score in a fast time over 1200M at this level when coming from off the pace on July 7th. He comes up 4kg in the weights, but he may be ready for another crack at 1400M, and he can be considered here. (1) BEOLGYO VERITAS won three in a row between March and July to get rapidly promoted to this level. He finished in midfield on his first try at this level over 1200M on July 14th but with a record of four wins from seven starts he is worth another chance here as he steps up to 1400M for the first time. (7) NICE TAEYANG weakened badly when tried at 1800M last time out but should be much happier back at a distance at which he has won once and placed three times in four attempts. (6) CHADOL DIA and the up in class (10) COSMO RUN are other possibles.

Seoul Race 9: Class 3 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(8) FLYING STAR comes out of the Triple Tiara series where she was 5th in the Luna Stakes before running 4th in the Korean Oaks. She then completed the series with a strong 2nd in the Gyeonggi Governor's Cup over 2000M. Her Oaks time was quicker than any of the rest here have achieved for 1800M and under a light weight, she can win. (9) JEONGSANG ACE enters having won at this class and distance back in May. He comes in fresh following thirteen weeks off, but he has certainly thrived at two turns and came back into work in late July. He likes to lead, and while he is up in the weights, he can be a danger. (7) AMERICA GOLD returns to action for the first time since winning at this class over a mile in February. He has only raced for times, winning twice, and looked well in a July trial. (5) MONEY CROWN and (6) KING DIA other real chances in a good race.

Seoul Race 10: Class 1 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million

(11) TIZ BAROWS will be favoured here. While he struggled in elite company in the Spring, he was a winner two starts back at this class and distance before running 4th over 2000M on July 7th. His running style means the widest gate shouldn't be a problem and he can win here. (1) MIGHTY NEW beat Tiz Barows when 3rd in that July 7th race over 2000M having been 4th behind him at this distance in June. He can be a danger again. (10) GLOBAL BOBAE beat several of these on his way to victory as favourite at this class over 1400M on July 21st. That win had been coming and while he has only ever tackled two turns once before, he could be ready for another crack. (2) CHOEGO BLACK and (7) NAMSANUI BYEOL among others in the frame.
