Deane Martin On Stage In Sydney

Byerley Park five-year-old Deane Martin will make his Australian debut at Rosehill on Saturday.

“He hopped on business class on Tuesday night and flew to Sydney,” trainer Bruce Wallace said.

“We were going to run him in the Premier’s Cup, but it’s quite a full field and he was borderline to get in. He’ll start in a Rating 95 event over 1500 metres and Brenton Avdulla will ride him.”

The winner of five races, Deane Martin has placed in two sprint appearances at Ruakaka since returning from a spell.

“Hopefully, he’s on his way to The Metropolitan and if he’s going well then he’ll go on down to Melbourne,” Wallace said.

Fast Dragon, who hasn’t raced since he finished sixth in the Gr.1 New Zealand Derby, and the maiden Just Call Me Ray, who will step out at Ruakaka this weekend, are also in line for trips to Australia.

First Foal For Super Easy

The first foal of Hallmark Stud stallion Super Easy, a former Singapore Horse of the Year, has arrived.

His Nearco Stud-bred daughter out of the Pentire mare Akin, a direct female descendant of the Golden Slipper winner Storm Queen, was safely delivered at Bradbury Park, Matamata.

“She’s a strong and correct filly so we’re delighted,” Hallmark’s Mark Baker said. “We’ve got several mares due to foal to Super Easy and it’s exciting times here.”

The multiple Group One winner of 15 races, Super Easy hails from one of the hottest families in the NZ Stud Book with his half-brothers Tiger Tees and Terravista both last-start Group winners in Sydney.

Rewarding Trial Day For Rogersons

Graeme and Debbie Rogerson’s stable were the dominant force at this week’s Te Teko trials.

Among their seven winners on Tuesday was an unnamed Pins two-year-old out of the O’Reilly mare Miracle Miss, who won five races and ran fourth in the Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas. Bred and raced by Waikato Stud, she won her 600 metre heat in good style.

Meanwhile, Steal The Thunder lived up to his name with a smart winning performance at the Rangiora trials.

Trained at Riccarton by Terri Rae, the Gold Mine three-year-old raced away with his 800 metre heat to score by three lengths in the hands of Samantha Wynne.

Rae said she would monitor the three-year-old’s progress out of his trial before deciding on his immediate racing future.
