Successful Central Districts horseman David Haworth has major changes planned for his training operation.
He has his 10-acre property adjacent to the Foxton racecourse on the market ahead of a return to his home base.
“My daughter Emma has her application in for a licence and we will be training in partnership,” Haworth said.“Our hope is to sell the Foxton stables and return to Palace Lodge, which is half-way between Levin and Foxton, where we’ve been living for the last 16 years.”
The Group One-winning trainer has a promising team of lightly-tried horses in work and a number of them were in action at the recent Woodville trails.Towkay four-year-old Tainui took another step toward a return to racing with a winning run in an open heat over 1000 metres.
“Him and his sister Waikaha trialled up well and they are both very good horses,” Haworth said.“They should be ready for the last day at Hastings with a Rating 75 over 1400 metres for him and there’s a Rating 85 for her.”
Tainui has won two of his five starts and hasn’t raced since he was unplaced, after a wide run, in the Gr.3 Cambridge Jockey Club Breeders’ Stakes in the autumn.Waikaha, who finished third in her 1000 metre heat at Woodville, is a dual winner and she showed her quality last preparation when third in the Gr.3 Cuddle Stakes at just her third appearance.
Both horses are raced by their Hunterville breeders Christopher and Susanna Grace, as is their promising stablemate View who was also in action at the trials. He hasn’t raced since he won over 2300 metres at Awapuni last November.
