Trentham rookies Terrill Charles and Jillian Morris will be looking to break new ground on the Wellington course on Saturday.
The trainer and jockey combination will join forces with the stakes winner She's Insatiable in the Gr.3 Mills Reef Winery Trentham Stakes and Lacota in the Go Racing Syndications Premier in search of their first winner on the track.
She’s Insatiable has the higher profile of the pair following her victory in last month’s Listed Metropolitan Trophy before a brave run for third in the Gr.3 New Zealand Cup.The six-year-old provided both Charles and Morris with their first black type success when she beat Deliciano on the opening day of the Riccarton carnival.
She’s Insatiable was unplaced last time out in the Listed Timaru Cup over a mile, but Morris said that effort is best forgotten.“You can just put a line through that - it was too short for her and she struck a wet patch about 800 metres out and that stopped her in her tracks and she couldn’t get going again over that distance.
“She needed a run as well and we’re quite happy with her. A good track will suit her much better and as long as she’s running on we’ll be very happy.”Like She’s Insatiable, Lacota is a former northerner and was a maiden winner for Bulls trainer Bryce Newman who has his Listed Liquorland Gore Guineas candidate Joby stabled with Charles at Timaru for his southern campaign.
Morris, 31, has ridden 128 winners since she first came to New Zealand for the 2006-07 season. “I’ve been back home to Scotland a few times and I’ve got my residency here now,” she said.
