Top international results for Battle Paint

Battle Paint’s family fortunes have been boosted by recent Group One results on the international stage.

The Cambridge stallion is a half-brother to Helene Super Star, a son of War Front who won the Champions and Chater Cup at Sha Tin in Hong Kong on Sunday.

A further significant pedigree update followed in Europe when previous Group Three winner War Dispatch finished third in the French Derby. Also by War Front, he is out of a half-sister to Battle Paint.

Resident at Chequers Stud, Battle Paint has enjoyed a break-out season with his son Affleck winning the Gr.1 Singapore Guineas. Battle Time, Jet Trac and Battle Plan have also been stakes performers from limited representatives of the Tale Of The Cat stallion.

Boss booked for Kiwi-bred

Glen Boss has been booked to ride the New Zealand-bred Master of Arts in Saturday’s $A600,000 Gr.1 Queensland Derby.

The Darren Weir-trained Mastercraftsman three-year-old was an unlucky last-start third in the Gr.3 Grand Prix Stakes.

He was ridden in the derby lead-up by Brad Rawiller, who has since suffered a knee injury and a suspension.

Another Group One hope for Savabeel

Bassett will attempt to double trainer Peter Moody’s Group One tally this season with juveniles by Savabeel.

A debut winner at Caulfield last month, the Kiwi-bred Karaka graduate is likely to take his place in Saturday’s $A600,000 JJ Atkins Stakes at Doomben following a satisfactory lead-up gallop.

Moody won the Gr.1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick in May with Pasadena Girl, a daughter of the Waikato Stud stallion.
