The Marton galloper finished third in the Gr.2 Tauranga Stakes 12 months ago before he won the Gr.1 Rydges Wellington Captain Cook Stakes and he will step out at Trentham on Saturday with identical lead-up form.

“The key to this horse is that he loves to race on the fresh side and we went to Tauranga this time knowing there was a twist to come in terms of his fitness,” trainer Fraser Auret said.

“I think he raced incredibly well, he’s just such a genuine horse and he has tightened up nicely for the Captain Cook.”

Julinsky Prince also has a Gr.1 Windsor Park Plate victory among his 11 career wins as well as two minor placings in the Gr.1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic.

He is a versatile performer with form on all types of footing and Auret will also be represented in the Captain Cook by Julinsky Prince’s up and coming stalemate Aide Memoire.

The Remind mare goes to Trentham off the back of a runner-up finish at Tauranga behind the Group One performer Trojan Warrior.

“I thought she was fantastic after she was caught wide,” Auret said. “She’s a little bit more complicated and she doesn’t like tracks that are too firm.”

Aide Memoire has won six races and she added black type to her CV in the autumn when she was successful in the Listed Rangitikei Gold Cup.

Auret will also have his promising stayer Alinko Prince at Trentham for the Fasttrack Insurance Chalmers Premier.

“We’re looking forward to running him at two miles and we’ll decide which way to go after that,” he said.

Alinko Prince was runner-up in the Listed Feilding Gold Cup behind the subsequent Gr.3 New Zealand Cup winner Pump Up The Volume before he was again second in the Waverley Cup last time out.
