A Kiwi country duo have adjusted well to life in the fast lane in Hong Kong.
“It’s just a different world over here – it’s a long way from the farm in Hunterville,” said Harry Bull, who stepped off a plane from New Zealand a week ago with the family horse Benzini.
“I’m really enjoying it though and everything has been put on for us.”Benzini will represent his country on Sunday against a high-class international line-up at Sha Tin in the Gr.1 Longines Hong Kong Vase, in which he will be ridden by Rosie Myers.
“He travelled over well and after a few days to settle in here he was away,” said Bull, who trains in partnership with his father Adrian.“His work at the track has been very good and he had his last bit of fast work on Friday morning with Rosie in the saddle.”
A Gr.2 Brisbane Cup winner and Gr.1 Livamol Classic placegetter, Benzini was runner-up in the Gr.3 OMF Stakes two runs back before he finished fifth in the Gr.3 Eagle Technology Stakes.“He came over here a fit horse and he’s ready to go,” Bull said.
Benzini will be facing the sternest test of his career on Sunday against a field that includes last year’s winner Highland Reel and fellow Group One winners Silverware, Erupt, Quechua and Nuovo Record.“It’s obviously going to be very tough, but we’re Kiwis and you’ve got to have a crack,” Bull said.
