The son of Showcasing comfortably accounted for the hot favourite Tutta La Classe with a commanding front-running performance in Saturday’s Rayner Building 2YO (1200m).

“There’s a nice race for him in three weeks’ time and hopefully he’ll get a puggy track again,” trainer Matthew Eales said.

He was referring to the Listed Courtesy Ford Ryder Stakes (1200m) on July 28.

Atenartin was making the fifth appearance of his career and his maiden success was down to the underfoot conditions.

“He was battling a bit in his first two runs, but once the heavier tracks came it slowed the others down and he’s got more professional,” Eales said.

A previous third on the course, the chestnut cleared the gates smartly and revelled in his work at the head of affairs.

“I thought he would go a decent race today on his last run,” rider Danielle Hirini said.

“We gave him a jump-out earlier in the week to blow out the cobwebs. He travelled well in front all the way, he’s only a wee tacker but he tries very hard.”

Atenartin surged clear on straightening and he held a strong gallop to defeat Tutta La Classe, who was given every chance by rider Lisa Allpress, by two lengths with debutant Notabadharada a solid third and well clear of Platinum Invader.
