SOUTH AFRICA: We Three too classy in Jockey Club Stakes

3 minute read

Justin Snaith's raiding trip to Arlington paid handsome dividends when two of his runners filled the first three places in the R120 000 Listed Jockey Club Stakes(2000m).

Despite a head wind, the Silvano mare We Three showed her class as she won easily with the other Snaith runner Flighty's Last finishing in third.

We Three took up the running right from the jump, followed closely by Inca's Spirit, while third favourite, Scripture, stood in the stalls and lost seven lengths at the start. Round the bend We Three held a comfortable lead over Inca's Spirit, with Flighty's Last further back on the rail in third.

Sammy Jo was in her usual position at the back of the field, with Scripture for company. Inca's Spirit briefly threatened, but coming into the home straight, Richard Fourie sent We Three on her way and with 200m to go, the five year old opened up a commanding lead to win by one and a half lengths.

A fast finishing Sammy Jo just managed to get the better of Flighty's Last on the line to deny Justin Snaith a one two. Generous Anna(AUS) threatened in the straight but did not see out the distance and faded to 6th.

This was We Three's 5th win from 19 starts for owners Mr J Mahony and her breeder Mr C W Nelson.
