Sean Tarry will have six feature race runners at Greyville on Saturday including three runners in the G1 Daily News 2000 led by SA Derby deadheater Pomodoro.

Pomodoro flew at the finish of the G1 SA Classic over 1800m at Turffontein in his penultimate start when he just failed to catch the winner Slumdogmillionaire. He followed up with victory in the G1 SA Derby over 2450m at Turffontein where he had to share the spoils with Royal Bencher.

Tarry gave Pomodoro and another of his Dail News team, the well regarded [nWhiteline Fever[/n], a grass gallop at Clairwood last Thursday and was happy with both of them.

“Whiteline Fever has always been a better work horse than Pomodoro,” he said. “Pomodoro reserves his best for the races.”

“The Derby was obviously a very hard race for him and I tried to freshen him up after that race.

“The Daily News is still part of his prep. I'm playing with fire running the horses in this race because the handicapper will raise them in the merit ratings if given a chance to.”

Whiteline Fever is merit rated 100 so still has a bit to do to qualify for the Vodacom Durban July, unlike Pomodoro who is already in as a G1 winner rated 108.

Whiteline Fever was gelded after two disappointing unplaced runs in the Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas and the SA Classic.

“The gelding has trimmed him up, which was what he needed,” said Tarry.

Tarry's third Daily News runner is Baracah from his Randjesfontein yard in Johannesburg.

“He ran two fair races in the Gauteng Guineas and SA Derby. The Daily News is a million rand race with a couple of them prepping.

"He will go for the Gold Circle Derby (Clairwood on June 24) from here.”

Tarry runs the fillies Tresco and Jet Set Model in the Woolavington 2000.

Tresco has been prepared at Randjesfontein and Tarry said, “She ran a very disappointing race in the SA Fillies Classic, but ran well in the SA Oaks.

"She has had a reasonable preparation and has a good draw, so I'm expecting a decent showing.

"She has always been rated by the stable, but hasn't delivered on her promise, although she is getting stronger and stronger and may be a better four-year-old.”

He said of Jet Set Model, who has only had three career starts to date: “I was a bit disappointed with her last time, but they did turn that race into a canter and sprint.

"I'm not sure she'll stay the 2 000m, we will find out on Saturday. She is in good order and I'm expecting a bold showing. We've never thought she was a superstar, but she has ability and is on the up.”

Tarry runs the 2009 Sansui Summer Cup and 2011 Canon Gold Cup winner Aslan in the G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup over 2400m.

“He is doing very well. I was impressed with his comeback run at Clairwood," Tarry said.

“There is no doubting, as a twice Grade 1 winner, that he can perform at this level. I'm expecting a big run from his number one draw and after this race I might give him another run as his final prep for the Gold Cup.”
