Star three-year-old Capetown Noir warmed up for his winter campaign with a comfortable victory in the G3 Byerley Turk over 1400m at Scottsville on Saturday.

He ran on easily under Karl Neisus from midfield to come home clear of Living With Heart, with Corredor and Pierneef in the minor placings.

The Dean Kannemeyer-trained Capetown Noir was using the Scottsvile race as a stepping stone to much bigger things.

He is set to be one of the major drawcards of the KZN winter season as he is regarded as the best three-year-old in the country.

Cape horses have now won four of the last six runnings of the Byerley Turk with Kannemeyer and Neisius retaining the trophy having won it together last year with Depardieu.

In the G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes over 1400m for 3YO fillies, the Justin Snaith-trained Jet Supreme upstaged odds-on favourite Izora from the De Kock stable, stretching out well to win by just over three lengths in her first start for two months.

Meanwhile Gavin Van Zyl's big gun Slumdogmillionaire is out for the rest of the season after being found to have carpal tunnel syndrome.

“It is when a spur develops on the back of the knee and has to be removed as it can protrude on to the tendon," Van Zyl reported, confirming that the 4YO will undergo an immediate operation.

It is the second time in two seasons that Slumndogmillionaire, a last start winner of the G1 Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes, has been laid off as went out for nine months due to a joint chip after winning last season’s G1 SA Classic.
