SOUTH AFRICA: Princess Victoria Heads To Scottsville

3 minute read

Star race mare Princess Victoria is reported raring to go in the Tibouchina Stakes over 1450m at Clairwood on Saturday following her highly satisfactory return to racing at Scottsville.

The four-time G1 winner was having her first race for six months in the SA Fillies Sprint yet managed to beat all except Via Africa and Festival Of Fire, and seemingly the performance was even better than it looked.

Trainer Glen Kotzen said: “She started coughing the week that we sent her to Durban and that was only two months ago.

“I told Bernard Fayd’Herbe not to be hard on her and he didn’t even give her a smack. We were delighted with her run and she took the race fantastically well.

“She has come out of it bouncing and she is all ready for Saturday.”

The four-year-old’s main aim is the G1 Garden Province Stakes on Vodacom Durban July day. She won last year’s race, lowering the colours of Ebony Flyer.

Princess Victoria raced in the famous Jaffee playing card colours that day but Georgina Jaffee has since sold her stake to breeders Maine Chance who now own three-quarters of the mare.

Lead owner Peter de Beyer has retained his quarter share.
