Triple Group One winner Inara heads a small but select list of entries for the R1 million Empress Club Stakes over 1600m at Turffontein on Saturday.

Inara, a six-time winner from the Mike Bass stable, won the G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes twice and the G1 Paddock Stakes and finished second to subsequent J&B Met winner Smart Call.

Inara has been at Summerveld in Durban with assistant Robert Fayd’Herbe for nearly a month.

She is set to travel to Johannesburg the day before the big race and go straight back to Durban afterwards.

The Empress Club Stakes will be Inara’s first start since her Majorca Stakes win in January but Fayd’Herbe says she is doing well away from Cape Town.

“She’s not a great work horse and doesn’t give too much away, but her gallops are good at the moment and she’s well in herself,” he said.

Inara got a lung infection while in Durban last year and it took the team months to get her right.

“At this point she hasn’t shown any signs that her lungs are not right,” said Fayd’Herbe. “The yard we were in last year was very dusty. This year we’re in a different yard, which is more open and windy.”

Olma, the second top-rated horse in the entries, will also have to travel from Durban to Turffontein.

The Frank Robinson-trained Olma is in hot form having won her last three starts but is yet to be tested at G1 level.

Champion trainer Sean Tarry has entered Tiger’s Touch, Trophy Wife and Intergalactic.
