Eight out but four supplemented for Oaks

3 minute read

Shamkala, as short as 7-1 for Friday's Investec Oaks, was one of eight fillies taken out of the race on Saturday

But four were added to the field after Honor Bound, Lily Rules, Anipa and Marsh Daisy were supplemented at a cost of £30,000 each.

Market leaders Taghrooda and Marvellous were confirmed for Epsom, as were other leading contenders Tarfasha and Ihtimal, but there will be no French runners after Shamkala was withdrawn by Alain de Royer-Dupre and Lady Dragon and Sinnamary not confirmed by Mikel Delzangles.

Coronation Stakes contenders Rizeena and Lightning Thunder, who was second in the 1,000 Guineas and Irish equivalent, also miss out along with Cambridge, Jordan Princess and Psychometry.

Roger Varian, who trains the supplemented Anipa for Nurlan Bizakov, told his website: "I have been pleased with her since her win in the Cheshire Oaks. There was a lot to like about that performance. The way she travelled and quickened, and a track like Epsom holds no fears for her.

"She needs to improve again to win an Oaks but we feel that the manner of her Cheshire Oaks victory more than entitles her to take her chance."
