Attaglance set for Teenage Cancer Trust Silver Trophy

3 minute read

Racing returns to Cheltenham with The April Meeting on Wednesday and Thursday.

The highlight of the two-day meeting is the £50,000 Grade Two Teenage Cancer Trust Silver Trophy Chase, a limited handicap over two miles and five furlongs.

In-form handler Malcolm Jefferson is planning to run course victor Attaglance. The nine-year-old captured the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle in 2012 and was an unlucky not to record a Festival double when second to Present View in last year's CHAPS Restaurants Barbados Novices' Handicap Chase.

Attaglance has only had three starts this season and was last seen out when 11th, beaten 12 lengths, to Darna (Kim Bailey) in the Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate at The Festival on March 12.

Jefferson, who has his horses in good form, said: "Attaglance is in good nick and the plan is go to Cheltenham on Wednesday.

"He has dropped down the handicap a bit this season but I thought he ran well in Cheltenham last time. I wasn't disappointed and those handicaps are always very competitive and difficult to win.

"He has come down a couple of pounds for that and I don't think the race on Wednesday will be as competitive. I'm very happy with him and, with a bit of luck, he should run a good race."

Entries for the Teenage Cancer Trust Silver Trophy Chase also feature Taquin Du Seuil (Jonjo O'Neill), who landed the Grade One JLT Novices' Chase at The Festival in 2014, Paddy Power Gold Cup hero Caid Du Berlais (Paul Nicholls) and last year's winner Buywise (Evan Williams).

The second day of The April Meeting features three Listed contests for fillies and mares, with the most valuable being the £40,000 EBF/TBA Mares' Novices' Chase Finale (2.40pm, 10 entries) over two miles and five furlongs.

Entries include Top Totti (Henry Daly), who was third to Ptit Zig in a Grade Two at Cheltenham on New Year's Day, and wide margin Warwick scorer Lily Waugh (Anthony Honeyball).

Grade One winner L'Unique (Alan King) tops 27 entries for the Listed £20,000 OLBG.com Supports Mares' Jump Racing Mares' Handicap Hurdle. Also engaged in extended two mile and five furlong contest is classy Flat recruit Broxbourne (Nicky Henderson), a winner over hurdles at Ludlow on April 2, and the Paul Nicholls-trained She's Da One.

Nicky Henderson has entered exciting point-to-point graduate Peggy Do in the £20,000 Listed TBA Mares' Novices' Hurdle over two miles and a furlong. The seven-year-old impressed in winning her only start under Rules by 16 lengths at Uttoxeter on March 28.

Potential rivals include The Govaness (Fergal O'Brien), who annexed a Listed bumper at Cheltenham last season, and Ludlow scorer Stephanie Frances (Dan Skelton).

Racing gets underway at 2.05pm and concludes at 5.30pm on both days of The April Meeting.
