Philip Hobbs considers Kempton date for Garde La Victoire

3 minute read

Garde La Victoire has the Betbright-sponsored Pendil Novices' Chase at Kempton on February 27 as an option before a crack at the Arkle at Cheltenham.

Though trainer Philip Hobbs feels the exciting prospect has enough experience in the bank, he has not ruled out a possible run in the Grade Two, which the yard won with Captain Chris before he went on to Arkle glory in 2011.

Garde La Victoire maintained his unbeaten record over fences at Ludlow on Tuesday.

"He was more workmanlike than impressive but he wouldn't have been in love with the ground and he was giving plenty of weight away," Hobbs told At The Races.

"He got the job done, we could say.

"His jumping was good and he's had three runs now so he's got the experience he needs before Cheltenham.

"We've got the option of running at Kempton two and a half weeks before Cheltenham if we want to but it's not essential now so we'll see how we go."
