Tea For Two team seeking King George prep run

3 minute read

Connections of Tea For Two are looking to find a suitable race ahead of the 32Red King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

The Nick Williams-trained seven-year-old made an encouraging reappearance at Ascot recently and he is being prepared for a crack at the Christmas showpiece.

Tea For Two has proved himself to be a Kempton specialist, having won there three times including in the Kauto Star Novices' Chase last December.

"He probably needed the run and was very keen. He jumped the fences like the hurdles - he was a bit over-exuberant," said Jayne Williams, the trainer's wife and assistant.

"I was pleased, it was a good first run of the season. I think it put us right to where we are heading.

"Where his next run is, I'm not sure. The Peterborough Chase is over two and a half miles and is more for two-mile horses really and Tea For Two is a three-mile horse.

"I don't know, we haven't made up our mind for his next run, but we know where we are going and that's for the King George, definitely.

"He's just a calmer, happier horse at Kempton. I don't know what it is about it, but he just likes Kempton and that's where we'll go.

"We might not quite have enough horse for the race, but we're going to give it a go."
