Valseur Lido camp 'fond' of Lexus Chase at Leopardstown

3 minute read

Connections of Valseur Lido are leaning towards the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown as his Christmas target.

A dual Grade One winner when trained by Willie Mullins, the Gigginstown House Stud-owned seven-year-old made a sparkling debut for Henry de Bromhead in the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal at the start of the month.

He holds an entry in the 32Red King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day, but is more likely to remain on home soil for Leopardstown's three-mile feature on December 28.

Gigginstown Stud manager Eddie O'Leary told the Irish Independent: "It's either the King George or the Lexus for Valseur Lido, (but) we are kind of fond of the Lexus.

"He (Valseur Lido) was going to win the Hennessy (Gold Cup, Leopardstown) last year only to fall.

"He gave an exhibition of jumping since he moved to Henry de Bromhead. He (De Bromhead) seems to have improved his jumping no end.

"Sub Lieutenant and Valseur Lido were very sketchy jumpers with their previous trainers - they both give exhibitions for Henry.

"Long may it last."
