Piz Badile will be aimed for the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup after a solid third in the Group 2 Moorsbridge Stakes at the Curragh on seasonal reappearance.
The four-year-old commenced his Classic campaign in 2022 with a win in the traditional Derby trial, the Group 2 Ballysax Stakes before making little impression in the Epsom Classic. He showed improved form when returning to the Curragh for the Group 1 Irish Derby and finished second behind Westover. Piz Badile has performed poorly on his two runs outside of Ireland (UK and France) and is expected to show his true running back at the Curragh for the Tattersalls Gold Cup.
Trainer Donnacha O'Brien said: "I was happy with the run in the Mooresbridge. It was a mess of a race and turned into a three-furlong sprint, so it was a little unsatisfactory in that we didn't learn an awful lot about where we will be going with him trip wise and things like that.
"But he came out of it well and he's in good form and all being well he will go back to the Curragh for the Tattersalls Gold Cup.
"He was second in the Derby there and ran well there the last day, but he's a horse that will handle any track."
The Tattersalls Gold Cup will be held on the 28th of May at the Curragh.
