The Karl Burke-trained Lady Hamana caused something of an upset when taking out the 5f Listed Molson Coors Scurry Stakes at Sandown this afternoon.
Lady Hamana was yet to score on turf coming into today but did show some decent form at this level at Chantilly in March and backed that up with a good effort when fifth in the Listed Chelmer Fillies' Stakes at Chelmsford a month later.
The daughter of I Am Invincible seemingly benefited from the application of first-time cheekpieces and drop back to 5f when landing this afternoon's feature. She could be spotted travelling kindly under Clifford Lee approaching the final furlong and quickened up smartly against the near rail to get the better of Tajalla (4/1), who had to make his challenge more towards the centre of the track, to score by a length and a quarter.
Richard Fahey's Great State (4/5 F) was all the rage in the market in his bid for a fourth-straight success, but he never looked entirely comfortable and could only manage third.
