What A Question was an easy winner of the 6f Class 4 Sir Eric Parker Memorial EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood on Friday for trainer Charlie Johnston.
The 100/30 favourite, What A Question made all in the hands of James Doyle and was asked to stamp her authority on the field at the two furlong marker. She responded with an impressive turn of foot, drawing clear of the chasing pack with James Doyle easing her up as they reached the line. She finished four-and-three-quarter lengths clear of the second-placed Adaay In Devon with She Wore N Jewels a further three-quarters of a length back in third.
Bred by Newsells Park Stud, What A Question was purchased by Ballylinch Stud for 55,000 guineas at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The dam Ceisteach (New Approach) was bred by Jim Bolger and started her career in Ireland, finishing second in the Listed Canford Cliffs Stakes on debut before recording a ten furlong maiden success at Leopardstown on the third time of asking. She commenced her four-year-old campaign under the care of Thomas Proctor in the US and thrived in her new surroundings, winning the 1m3f Grade 3 Robert G Dick Memorial Stakes at Del Mar in July 2015. Her first foal Arranmore (Oasis Dream) is a four-time winner in the UK and is currently in training with Dianne Sayer.
What A Question's second dam Ceist Eile (Noverre) produced four individual winners including Ceisteach. Her best offspring was Steip Amach (Vocalised), who was successful in Group Three company twice (Killavullan Stakes and Amethyst Stakes) and placed an additional thirteen times, including a third in the Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville.
Ceisteach's full-sister Fidaaha (New Approach) was sent to stud in 2018 after an uninspiring four-race career and has produced two Black Type performers from two raced foals. Her first foal Malavath (Mehmas) won the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte as a juvenile before taking the Group 3 Prix Imprudence on seasonal reappearance whilst second foal Knight (Mehmas) won the Group 2 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury on his second career start. Knight is in training with Simon & Ed Crisford and holds an entry for the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
