Sam King tipped a 7/1 winner at Carlisle yesterday to continue the good run of form and he’s back with three more selections for you on Thursday.
It's easy to see why Urban Sprawl is favourite for the Celebrating Racing's Workforce Handicap at Newmarket (4.20) but he looks short enough in the market for me at around the even money mark and I'm more than happy to take him on with something at a bigger price.
It's the William Stone-trained Final Watch that I've ended up siding with and if you ignore his recent run when last of eight at Ascot (lost both his front shoes), he'd probably arrive here with quite an attractive profile.
He shaped nicely to finish fourth in a stronger seven-furlong handicap at Newbury on his reappearance and would have probably finished in the money but for being slowly away. The five-year-old won a competitive Ascot handicap over this trip off this mark last season and the William Stone team has been in decent form of late.
The return to the July course will be of no concern for this previous course and distance scorer and at general odds of 8/1 he looks worth forgiving a moderate effort last-time-out.
Selection: Final Watch – General 8/1
The second selection of the day also comes from Newmarket and I'm expecting Dereham to put up a bold bid to make it back-to-back victories in the concluding 2m Join Racing TV Now Handicap at 5.30.
The seven-year-old has improved with both starts this season and arrives following a credible third of eight over 1m6f at Chelmsford three weeks ago. Stepping back up to 2m looks a massive positive for this thorough stayer and it's likely at the age of seven he needs a couple of runs to be cherry ripe now.
Newmarket-based veteran John Berry is enjoying a fine run of things at the moment with a 67% RTF percentage. He's saddled two winners from six runners over the last fourteen days and it looks significant he's mapped out a return to this contest for Dereham this year.
Harry Davies gets back on the horse for the first time since the pair teamed up to take this off the same mark last year and I'm certainly hopeful of a big effort with any rain around certainly no issue for this thorough stayer.
Selection: Dereham – General 13/2
Heads turn to the all-weather for our third and final wager where Lattam should take plenty of beating in the JenningsBet In Kippax Seaton Delaval Handicap at Newcastle (3.20).
William Haggas' unexposed four-year-old made his seasonal reappearance in fine style when landing the Irish Lincolnshire at the Curragh and proved he still had plenty more to offer when second to subsequent Royal Hunt Cup winner Jimi Hendrix at Newbury in April.
It's hardly surprising to see him have a small break following that effort given he goes well fresh and the switch to an all-weather surface for the first time could eke out some further progress.
He's only 2lb higher than when runner-up at Newbury and with the stiff mile at Newcastle to suit, this son of Lope De Vega should take some stopping.
Selection: Lattam – General 13/8
