Sam King tipped Vandeek to score at short odds at Goodwood yesterday and he’s back with two more selections at more generous prices this afternoon.
As expected, the Coral Golden Mile looks a competitive affair but I'm hoping the same trainers as Vandeek, Simon and Ed Crisford, can come up trumps with Awaal.
The Crisford-trained runner continues to run well in big-field handicaps with cut in the ground and the fitting of first-time cheekpieces may prove a shrewd move by the Newmarket-based handlers.
The form of his recent third in the seven-furlong Bunbury Cup looks solid and he should appreciate going back up to a mile.
Harry Davies claims a valuable 3lb and with cheekpieces now applied it's easy to think there could be some further improvement on the cards. A mark of 105 is towards the high side but he's already placed at Listed level in France and this son of Lope De Vega looks a cracking each-way bet with multiple firms offering six places.
Selection: Awaal – General 8/1
Our second selection comes in the Ire-Incentive It Pays To Buy Irish Nursery at 4.45.
Andrew Balding has already been on the board this week and the booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye for his runner Loaded Gun.
He'll need to improve on his minor success over five furlongs at Chester last time, but it did come on heavy ground and he's 2lb well-in.
The step up to six furlongs looks sure to bring about some improvement and this son of Magna Grecia should give a good account against horses who are yet to prove themselves on this surface.
Once again, multiple bookmakers are offering extra places and I'm more than happy to back him each-way at a general 6/1.
Selection: Loaded Gun – General 6/1
