Listed action continues on Wednesday with the 1m2f Foundation Stakes at Goodwood. The meeting is one of six fixtures across the UK and Ireland, boasting a competitive seven-race card.
In the 1m2f Listed Foundation Stakes (3:40), My Prospero is a short priced favourite to get back to winning ways for the William Haggas team. The four-year-old has not won since a Group 3 Prix Eugene Adam success at Saint-Cloud in July 2022 and has not made the successful transition to Group 1 company that connections were probably hoping for. Although not disgraced in his three starts this year, My Prospero has failed to land a blow at Group 1 level and was a beaten favourite when half-a-length second to Alflaila in the Group 2 York Stakes at the end of July. He has been freshened up for this race and ten furlongs does appear to be the colt's ideal trip.
It may not be a straightforward task for My Prospero with Charlie Appleby' King Of Conquest returning to the scene of his course and distance Listed Festival Stakes success in May. Although the gelding has been well-beaten in his two subsequent starts, he has been facing some useful competition – including a fourth behind Al Aasy in the Group 3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes – and these conditions should bring about a return to form.
Of the longer priced runners, it is interesting to see Sierra Blanca returning to the track with the benefit of the three-year-old weight allowance. The colt is making his first start for Freddie and Martyn Meade, having moved from Aidan O'Brien when purchased by the Meade's Manton Park Racing. Although the son of No Nay Never has not been since November, he boasts some very useful form from the juvenile campaign including a three-and-a-quarter length success in a twenty-runner Naas maiden, beating Jessica Harrington's Epsom Derby fourth. If the colt has retained any glimpse of ability, he should be an interesting prospect for the Meade team.
WIN: KING OF CONQUEST
PLACE: SIERRA BLANCA
With a prize pot of £50,000 to the winner, it is little surprise to see a large field lined up for the 7f Class 2 British EBF £100,000 2YO Fillies' Series Final (EBF Restricted Race Series) (4:15). Chic Columbine will be chasing a fourth straight victory for trainer George Boughey, having impressed when taking a nursery handicap over St Leger weekend at Doncaster. She is a two-time winner at seven furlongs and continues to prove versatile in a variety of different conditions.
At the prices, Get Jiggy With It appears to be the one to side with. By Highland Reel, it would be no surprise to see Charlie Hills' filly continue to improve with each of her racecourse starts and she has been firmly in the mix on all of her three outings so far. A second behind Crimson Spirit at Epsom Downs can probably be upgraded with the filly becoming unbalanced in the closing stages, and the return to a more conventional track is undoubtedly a positive. She ran well to finish third over course and distance two starts back behind the useful Ornellaia and another big performance should be anticipated.
