Sam King failed to get on the board yesterday but returns with two selections from Newcastle's evening meeting…
Newcastle 4.45 - Vintage Love
There could yet be more to come from Vintage Love, and she remains of strong interest in the mile-and-a-quarter Class 6 handicap at Newcastle this evening. Grant Tuer's filly was having her first outing over the distance when a steadily keeping-on fourth a week ago, leaving the impression she had a bigger effort.
A 1lb drop in the weights will not harm, putting her on a career-low mark of 49. She finished a decent fourth off 6lb higher at Beverley back in July and surely her time will come sooner rather than later. The Grant Tuer team are no strangers to having success at Newcastle and with Sam James back on board, this daughter of Expert Eye is selected to get off the mark at the sixteenth attempt.
Odds – 3/1
Newcastle 5.55 - Arkinthestars
Later on the card, Arkinthestars looks like an interesting proposition in the maiden fillies' stakes. The Nick Bradley Racing partnership must have held this filly in some regard to pitch her into a valuable sales race at the Curragh on debut and she was by no means disgraced back in ninth.
Having been slowly away, the Karl Burke-trained Mohaather filly had plenty to do with a furlong to travel but stayed on in eye-catching style inside the final 100 yards. She was only beaten six and a half lengths crossing the line, shaping as though there should be bundles more to come from her with that experience under her belt.
The extra half-furlong on offer at Newcastle this evening should play to her strengths, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if she got the better of the seemingly more-fancied market leader Orange Sky, who finished runner-up to a smart type on debut at Newbury.
Odds – 11/4
