Sam King is back with two selections for you on Tuesday…
The abandonment of Perth leaves us with just four meetings to get our teeth stuck into on Tuesday. We head to Yarmouth for our first selection and Lenny's Spirit has to be of interest in the Racing With Resilience: Headway's Winning Spirit Handicap at 3.05.
The Ed Dunlop-trained six-year-old has yet to get his head in front this year but has tumbled down the weights as a result. A winner of a soft-ground Class 5 handicap over ten furlongs at Newbury off a mark of 68 last summer, this will be the first time that Lenny's Spirit has encountered genuine soft ground since finishing fourth off a rating of 72 at Beverley in April.
Down 12lb since that pleasing effort earlier this season, Ed Dunlop's charge shaped as though a return to the winners' enclosure could be on the cards sooner rather than later when fifth at Southwell twelve days ago.
The likes of Albert Asker, who looked in need of the first-time cheekpieces when second at Newcastle last month, and Budding bring the more solid recent form to the table, but neither look as well-treated as the selection off their current marks.
At general odds of 4/1, Lenny's Spirit certainly looks like the value play in this Class 6 handicap.
Lenny's Spirit - Odds – 4/1
We head to the all-weather for our second and final selection, where Jenever makes plenty of appeal in the Extra Winnings With BetUK Acca Club Handicap at 5.55.
Jessica Macey's sprinter has been in fine for the most part of the season and posted an excellent effort in defeat when fourth in the Class 2 Ayr Silver Cup a month ago.
The well-regarded runner-up Aramram has since gone one spot better at Wolverhampton earlier this month to give the form a boost and there's no doubt this represents a drop in standard for Jessica Macey's five-year-old.
The return to this venue holds no fears for this previous course and distance scorer and with a good draw to work from in stall seven, Lewis Edmunds should have options as to where he wants to sit throughout the run.
A current mark of 82 will require a career-best, but he still looks to be on the up and I'm fully hopeful he can post his best effort to date to return to winning ways this evening.
Jenever – Odds - 7/2
