Saudi National Day races at Taif

3 minute read

For those who follow Purebred Arabian racing this weekend has something for everyone.

Taif is in the southwest of the Kingdom and up in the mountains so it is cooler and popular as a summer vacation spot for those who live in warmer cities.  It's known as "the city of roses" and is also the home of the King Khalid Racecourse.  HRH Prince Bandar bin Khalid Al Faisal, the Chair of the Jockey Club, announced this week that the main race, the King Faisal Cup, has been elevated to G3 status.  It's for 3yo Purebred Arabian colts, fillies and geldings.

That will be run on the Friday night and on the Saturday night there is another full program so that between the two days all distances and classes will be covered .  Prize money for the 2 days is around $AU 2 million .
