The Eclipse went to the favourite City of Troy.
But only just and it wasn't pretty, with Al Riffa getting the nose in front at one stage but the favourite was able to fight back and just get the verdict. There were only six runners in the race so it should have been easy and traffic cannot be blamed – maybe the soft ground but we remember Robert Sangster saying a good horse will run on anything. Yes the Epsom Derby-Eclipse is a rare double but there wasn't that much competition.
Fortunately we were quite happy cruising along and content to just watch the big race after we had collected in the G3 Coral Charge. Thank you Makarova you have repaid me what you owed me, and thanks also to Purosangue and Desperate Hero who ran second and third.
A bit of trivia – where was the Tour de France heading to on Sunday? Answer Troyes.
