There's two G3s to kick start 2025.
Firstly we closed out 2024 on Sunday 29th with the Class 2 Buffalo Hill over 2000. It was good to see the stayers in action and the win went to the Argentinian-bred Bravehearts who came to Hong Kong with a huge reputation having won the Carlos Pellegrini and looks now to have settled into Hong Kong racing. Mark Newnham trains him and Mathew Pool was on board. They were followed home by our roughie Winning Dragon and third went to Romantic Thor.
The calendar New Year's Meeting hosts the Bauhinia Sprint and the Chinese Club Challenge Cup.
The former has Magic Control as the odds-on favourite but we may be tempted to go for Howdeepisyourlove on 3.8 for Size-Purton. Beauty Waves is on 5.3 and all three have been working well and the race is expected to be between these three runners with the remaining three all in double digits. The race is Race 4 on the card and over 1000m.
The Chinese Club Challenge Cup comes at Race 8 over 1400m and has 11 runners. It is quite an even field with Patch of Theta the current favourite on 3.00 for Lui-Teetan. Green N White blotted his previously very good copy book but ignore that last start and 7.3 sounds good – Yiu and Poon here and he's been working well. California Spangle is one of our favourites and he could have a very good chance here – Cruz has booked Avdulla for the ride and they are on 6.0. Red Lion is on 5.4 for Size-Purton but he still has a bit to prove in our book, and Beauty Joy on 9.7 would not be a surprise if in the frame at the end.
