It might have been an overcast day at Broadmeadow on Saturday but the ladies shone brightly, maintaining their high quality breeding with some excellent wins.

The first of them was Lady Paget in Prosperity Audit Services Maiden Plate. She is by Testa Rossa out of Lady Capel making her a half sister to Patinack Farm's G1 winner Casino Prince. Of course he is the focus of much attention at the moment as the sire of Black Caviar's brother All Too Hard.

Paying nearly $20 on the NSW TAB, the Anthony Cummings filly was able to use barrier one to camp on the speed and pull around the leaders heels.

After having little luck on debut around the tight Canterbury circuit, she used the long straight to her advantage and drew away to win by 1½ lengths.

Cummings was also Casino Prince's trainer and given he was desperately unlucky not to a win Doncaster Mile, it suggests this filly will enjoy stepping up in trip even more.

One race later, it was the chance for dual G1 winner Melito's half sister to stand in the winner's stall in the Ringal Valley Maiden Handicap.

Secluded, by Hussonet, did her family proud by getting a long way back on the fence and working home nicely near the inside.

Starting at $8, the chestnut filly trained by Paul Messara, is possibly heading home to Scone for a race over the carnival in a fortnight and then maybe even for a black type race in Brisbane after her solid win.

“She's a lovely filly,” Messara said about the second starter. She is raced by several syndicates including the Arrowfield Pastoral Syndicate which is managed by Racing NSW Chairman John Messara.

Paul indicated he was also very pleased with the progress of his G1 winning mare Ortensia. In England for the King's Stand on 19 June, the mare has not gone backwards since her Al Quoz Sprint win on World Cup night at Meydan in Dubai.

“She's in great shape,” he said. “Looking forward to giving her a chance at the tough Ascot straight which races more like a six furlong course.”
