Mufhasa Wins Second NZ Title

Mufhasa, at the grand age of eight and winner of over $3 million , was crowned Horse of the Year for a second time at the annual New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Awards in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Votes were overwhelmingly in Mufhasa's favour, totalling 37 of a possible 43.

This is the second time Mufhasa has won the title following his win in 2010. Mufhasa won the G1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield, G1 d Captain Cook Stakes at Wellington, G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield and G1 Makfi Challenge Stakes at Hastings last season.

Mufhasa was also named 2012 Champion Sprinter.

Shez Sinsational - Champion Stayer

Warhorse - Champion 2YO

Silent Achiever - Champion 3YO

Planet Rock - NZ Bloodstock Champion 3YO Filly

Ima Heroine - Champion Jumps Horse.

Sunline's retired trainer Trevor McKee received the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Racing.

James McDonald was voted the Champion Jockey 2012; John Sargent was Champion Trainer; Richard Cully champion Jumps Jockey; and Jason Collett champion apprentice.

Karyn Fenton-Ellis, a Trackside TV presenter, won the Media Award.

The Oaks Stud, owner of Artistic, Zurella and other top class horses, was awarded the Owner of the Year and Piper Farm Ltd (Alex and Cecile Smith), breeders of So You Think and Now You Know, took the Breeder of the Year Award.

Triassic, the dam of So You Think and Now You Know, won the Broodmare of the Year for the second year running.
