Having returned from a spell in great order, Best As Zarizhas always shown a lot of promise at the racetrack having only missed the money on three occasions from 12 starts, however Nisbet admits it was hardly the case at home.

"We never really had much of an opinion of him at home, even now he's a pretty ordinary track - worker and to be honest when we were educating him we didn't really think he was much chop," Nisbet said.

"He didn't really have much of an action but he's a real nice type of horse who has just kept on improving."

Able to overcome the testing conditions at Canberra last start, Best As Zariz fought on well to lead all the way to score over 1300m.

"He's always raced well from day one but he's really stepped it up in his last few efforts they've been terrific," Nisbet said.

"He's done that a few times now, he seems to let them get to him and then he's able to find something and beat them off."

Stepping up in grade for Friday's event, Nisbet feels the son of Zariz is very well placed having finished a close second in tougher open company two starts back.

"I think it's a really nice race for him on Friday, he finished second in open company two starts back which was a pretty decent field," Nisbet said.

"They really took him on that day and he fought back well right on the line, I think Friday will be a good stepping stone for him.

"He's a pretty casual sort of horse so you never really take too much out of what he does on the track but he's pretty fool proof and he's done well and looks well heading into Friday's race."

Having only raced beyond 1200m once in his twelve career starts to date, Nisbet said he has no concerns with the step up to 1400m and claimed it has always been the plan for this preparation.

"He got away with those shorter races early in his career but as we saw those shorter trips didn't really suit him towards the back of end of his last preparation ," Nisbet said.

"He's a horse that really likes to race up on the speed and fight a bit so that how's he'll be ridden in the future and if we can get him up to a mile it will be even better."

The in-form Jeff Penza is back on board after he was unable to ride the gelding last start when he was suspended.

"Jeff has a great association with our stable, he does a lot of riding for us, he's a very good jockey and a very genuine bloke so we're very happy to see him back on board on Friday," Nisbet said.
