Main Hobart Cup contenders Fieldmaster and defending champ Geegees Blackflash have each come up with horror gates for the $225,000 Group 3 feature on Sunday.

Barriers were finalised this morning at Tattersall’s Park and the outcome was far from ideal for anticipated favourites Geegees Blackflash and Fieldmaster.

The pair drew barriers 14 and 16 respectively.

Summer Cup winner The Cleaner drew more favourably in alley 11 where he will cross over from to lead under the guidance of Jason Maskiell.

The above mentioned trio are expected to feature prominently in the finish of Sunday’s Hobart Cup having clashed multiple times so far over the Tasmanian summer.

Mick Burles’ stable star The Cleaner held both Fieldmaster and Geegees Blackflash at bay last start when claiming the Summer Cup (2100m).

Geegees Blackflash was a last start winner of the Fergusson Jockey Club WFA Cup (2100m), 1.8 lengths clear of Fieldmaster.

While the wide gate isn’t ideal, Fieldmaster meets Geegees Blackflash and The Cleaner 4.5kg and .5kg better off at the weights respectively from the last time they met.

Other notable entrants and their barriers include Norsqui [2], Hurdy Gurdy Man [1] and the ultra consistent Lucky Angel [10].
