While each year is irrespective of the last there are a number of key historical trends which see the Bjorn Baker Unencumbered as clearly the horse to beat in tomorrow's Magic Million's Classic.
Battle Of The Sexes
Fillies have really dominated the race in recent years with just three colts have managed to fill the placings in the last eight years.Phelan Ready who obviously won the race in 2009
Husson Lightning (2nd) in 2007Churchill Downs (2nd) in 2006
So in all fillies have filled 21 of 24 placings.
Adding to that it's not since Phelan Ready won the race in 2009 that a colt/gelding has featured in the finish.Favourites Record
The market has really provided a great guide to this race over the past 20 years.Favourites have won eight of the past 20 proceedings (40%) and also worth noting the winner has SP at less than 5-1 on 15 occasions.
Barriers Have Also Played Their Part
In the last 20 years only two horses have won the race after drawing worse then 10:2006 - Mirror Mirror (15)
1997 - General Nediym (13)Eight of the last 20 victors have drawn inside barrier four, which obviously reads well for the current favourite Unencumbered.
Last Start Winners:
Probably the most telling trend of all: 16 of the past 20 victors have all be last start victors.History To Be Rewritten?
If Unencumbered is to prove successful on Saturday he would become the first horse to win the Wyong Magic Millions, The BJ McLachlan and The Gold Coast Magic Millions. In doing so he would also become the first colt to win the BJ McLachlan en route to winning the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
The Hawkes trained Invisible is also in line to create history as he aims to become the first horse to win the Gold Coast Magic Millions at just their second start.
Maidens A Chance?
Only two horses have ever broke through for their maiden win in this race being Phelan Ready in 2009 and Dancer's Joy in 1990.
