Enjoying his best season in the saddle to date, apprentice jockey Harry Coffey incurred an eight race suspension at Sandown on Sunday.

After riding Olivier to victory for trainer Darren Weir earlier in the Sandown program, Harry Coffey was suspended later in the program for careless riding aboard another stable runner in Must Be Mink.

Must Be Mink finished third in the TMB Printing Handicap (1400m) behind the Peter Moody-trained Spirit Of Heaven.

The Musket filly’s tendency to lay in under Coffee’s urgings over the concluding stages caused interference to Dancing Rose and was subsequently charged with careless riding.

Coffee pleaded guilty and was suspended for eight meetings.

His suspension for the mid-range careless riding charge incurred yesterday will commence at midnight August 5 and finish on August 13.

The suspension will be served concurrently with another eight race suspension Coffee received for careless riding at Bendigo last Thursday which commences after Monday’s Swan Hill meeting.

Coffee’s 2013/14 has been the best of the young jockey’s career by some way having ridden more than 70 winners so far.

It follows a 2012/13 season where he fell just shy of the half century mark.
