Chris Waller’s French-bred Silverball is topweight under 58kg in the field of eight.

Brenton Avdulla goes aboard the gelding, a last-start second to Magic Hurricane in the Premier’s Cup.

Robert Hickmott will send Foundry north from his Mt Macedon base, the Irish stayer drawing the rails for James McDonald.

John O’Shea’s Irish-bred Havana Cooler looks to put his Wyong Cup disappointment behind him and will have Joao Moreira aboard from gate seven.

Two British imports, Maurus and King Kinshasa, both line-up after first up wins, Maurus jumping from gate two for Jason Collett while Gai Waterhouse’s King Kinshasa drew the six marble.

Tye Angland rides Kingdoms for Brian Smith from the outside draw with Anthony Cummings’ in-form Skyline Blush drawing three under Tim Clark and Robbie Laing’s Temps Voleur coming up with gate five.

Silverball was ridden quietly back in fifth place, one off the rails, following a very steady tempo (first 1400m 1:28.50). Brenton Avdulla asked him to sprint rounding the home turn, he got to third nearing the 200m and then finished too well to score comfortably at the post, in a smart effort. Maurus was second last on the rails in the seven-horse field. He switched deep on straightening and ran on well in the sprint home for a very good second. Foundry was fourth on the rails, got through to third at the 300m and kept battling really on well along the rails, to hold third, in a sound effort. King Kinshasa led the field at a moderate pace, lifted the tempo from the 600m and led clearly at the 200m before fighting on for fourth, beaten less than a length, with the first four home European-bred imports.
