Progressive sprinter Fell Swoop was given an easy time in his first autumn hitout in a Goulburn barrier trial on Wednesday.
The Matthew Dale-trained gelding was sent back to the tail of the field by Brenton Avdulla in the 800 metre heat but was warming up nicely in the straight.
Fell Swoop made late ground to run third to stablemate Tiger Eyes, who won in 45.06 seconds.
Fell Swoop has won eight of 10 career starts and made great strides in the spring, culminating in Listed wins in the Chandler McLeod Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley and the Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
Dale is setting the four year-old for a second-up tilt at the Group 1 Galaxy, to be run at Rosehill on March 19.
Fell Swoop could make his return in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on his way to that race.
