Lindsay Park-trained/Shadwell-raced colt Muraaqeb scored his third win and his first at Group level in winning in good style here. He settled in fifth place, on the rails from his good barrier (3), behind a solid tempo. Damien Oliver eased him into clear running on straightening, dashed to the front at the 100m and then went on to score well. Dissolution, who has won both starts in lesser classes since resuming for new trainer Brad Widdup, did well despite stepping up in class here. He raced outside the leader (Sondelon), got to the front nearing the 200m and then battled on gamely for a good second. The favourite Holy Snow was a bit slow to move, recovered to settle in eighth place on the rails, managed to angle between runners approaching the 200m and kept running on well under 59kg for a good third.
