2019 CANBERRA CUP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Almost Court and Samadoubt both run along and there’s pace behind. MORTON'S FORK has come back to racing improved and ran a peak placing at the mile 2U. The middle distance is ideal now and he will take beating drawn low with Shinn sticking.

EMPEROR'S WAY will be better for the three runs back and best to forgive the latest in the Parramatta Cup. The Caulfield run prior reads well and he will run it right out. SAMADOUBT led in the Parramatta Cup as favourite and compounded. Not sure what to make of that, but the efforts prior at the mile stack right up.

SAYED was close up in town 4U making sharp improvement at long odds. That was his first show of form since transferring from the Waller camp and Matt Dale is an astute mentor. Draws out but keeps Berry and could be the surprise packet building on the sharp figure. ALMOST COURT won this last year but worry he may be a run short. Will bring the grandstand down if he can deliver again.

Form Preview

Bjorn Baker-trained stayer Samadoubt staged a good frontrunning effort in winning here, his eighth win but his first at stakes level in 33 starts to date. He was smartly away and soon crossed from barrier ten to take the lead. He then travelled nicely at a reasonable tempo, beat off challengers and grabbed a break on straightening the then went on to score quite comfortably by two lengths. Taikomochi was smartly away and soon crossed before settling well in third place, with cover. He moved up approaching the home turn, went to second at the 200m and then held on well to secure that placing in a photo from Almost Court, who had been a handy fourth most of the way before fighting on well for third. The favourite Morton's Fork had a good trip in sixth place, on the rails, but just battled on in the straight to finish (4.5 lengths) sixth.
