Well-bred filly Molukua returns for 38-time Group One-winning trainer Clarry Conners on Wednesday.
Multiple Group One-winning trainer Clarry Conners will welcome back an exciting spring prospect in the Precise Air Handicap (1250m) at Kensington on Wednesday.
Mokulua has only had one race start, finishing second at Wyong back in March, but has won both of her trials leading into her first-up assignment.
A daughter of the great Redoute's Choice, Mokulua is nominated for the Group One Golden Rose.
But being out of VRC Oaks winning mare Dear Demi, which Conners trained, he has other ideas in mind for the three-year-old.
"I'm heading towards the VRC Oaks, I am heading there," Conners said.
"She's not as big and strong as her mother was, so that's a little bit of a concern, but her last month or six weeks, she's just starting to bloom and starting to do nice.
"I tossed and turned whether I'd even run her this week, but she's come along nice and it's the right race and she's got a good jockey, and she drew a barrier.
"The horse will have to tell us first (if we head toward the VRC Oaks).
Mokulua trialled just two weeks ago at Warwick Farm, beating home the Matthew Smith-trained Seven Twenty.
Seven Twenty has since come out and broken her maiden by 2.16 lengths at provincial level at Goulburn on Saturday.
The win of Seven Twenty has only added confidence to Conners, who says Mokulua will improve with the run under her belt.
"It's pleasing to see something she's trialled against has done that, it ticks another box," he said.
"Her only run was a really good run, she got home at the finish. I think whatever she does she'll improve on it.
"She's had a bit of a wintery coat when she came in and I think this is a nice race for her to start off in.
"Her trials were good, her works been nice and I'm pretty happy to start her off and work from there because I think she does have a future."
Conners is closing in on training 1500 winners for his career, but it remains a simple method for the 38-time Group One-winning trainer to remain in the industry.
"You've got to have a good two-year-old coming along," Conners said.
"For trainers, if we don't have a good two-year-old, you don't feel like getting up in the morning!"
Mokulua opened at $4.60 with tab.com.au, but has drifted and currently sits at $5 on Monday afternoon.
