Trainer Adam Trinder has the chance to improve on his already impressive winning strike rate when he takes 11 horses from his stable to the final night meeting of the season in Launceston on Wednesday night.
This season Adam Trinder is striking at an 18.30% winning rate, with 31 winners from 169 starters, the best of the top 10 Tasmanian trainers.
All of his entries on Wednesday are well in the market with four of them early favourites in their respective races, however Trinder believes Summer Fire, ($5.50) in the final event, the Little Giant Homes BM76 over 1400m, is the best from his stable.
"I thought she was really good at 1400 metres last time out which was her first try at it and she was the only horse in it to make ground.
"She got out and made good ground late and was good through the line and beyond the line. I think it maps for her to be very competitive, I think they will go quick, and she will be able to be rested and with her weight (55kg), I think she gets her opportunity to win another race."
Trinder suggests that Hewie, a lightly raced 4YO stepping up to 2100m for the first time might just be the best of the rest.
At his last run three weeks ago, Hewie was a good thing beaten in a 1600m race getting back from a wide draw and unable to find a run in the home straight.
"I've been reasonably stern with him at home and kept the training up to him so he won't be wanting from a training perspective and hopefully from his draw he can take up a forward position and be out of trouble.
"He's one of those horses, he's quirky but he has tended to find more trouble than luck in his races so he is due for a change of luck, "Trinder said.
"I'm putting my head on the chopping block, but 2100 (metres) he'll role forward and be strong, so Summer Fire followed by Hewie are my two best."
In early markets Hewie is the $3.90 favourite in the Ladbrokes Odds Surge 2100m Maiden/Class 1, Brendon Mccoull is aboard and he will jump from barrier three.
While Trinder will be busy readying his team for Launceston, he will also be keeping a close eye on the Eagle Farm races in Brisbane where his stable apprentice Erica Byrne Burke is representing Tasmania in the fifth round of the National Apprentice Race Series.
'EBB' has had some good fortune at the draw with both her mounts to start from barrier one.
Her first ride, Polite Applause is rated a $23 chance but in leg two she rides Havlicek ($4.80) for champion trainer Chris Waller.
"Her second ride looks a good chance so hopefully she can get a good opportunity on that one.
"Her first ride if she could get a place on that it would be a good result but it will be a good experience for her, she's really looking forward to it so hopefully she can capitalise," Trinder said proudly.
Looking for a best bet, I'm agreeing with Adam Trinder, Hewie went straight into the black book after that luckless run last time.
Full coverage of the last Wednesday night meeting for the season will be hosted by Duncan Dornauf on TasracingTV, with the first on the card to get underway at 17.38.
