Champion jockey Brendon McCoull made the most of his opportunities at the Hobart meeting on Sunday with three rides for three wins to consolidate his chance of a 15th premiership.
Brendon Mccoull kicked off the day with Sh'Bourne Rebel ($2.90 out to $4) winning the first race, he led early, allowed One Lotto to roll to front, before he regained the lead early in the straight and held on to win.
In the second race, he brought Hewie ($3.10) from well back in the field to score a last stride win. Hewie has always shown promise but can be a difficult ride. On Sunday, McCoull allowed the 3YO to find his feet before timing his run to perfection.
He then produced arguably his best ride of the day with the well supported Adachi ($8 into $6) for his partner Imogen Miller. From a wide barrier McCoull guided the 3YO across to the lead, rated him perfectly and scored an impressive win at just his second race start.
McCoull 49, has ridden six winners from his past eight rides and I don't think I've seen him ride better. He now has 45 wins for the season, four ahead of Siggy Carr (41) with David Pires (40) sitting third on the premiership table with 11 race meetings remaining.
While McCoull took riding honours, another in the twilight of his career, Gary White, was the best performed trainer.
White, who has tasted plenty of success over the years with wins in nearly all the major races in the state, including Hobart and Launceston Cups, saddled up a winning double with I'm Krupt landing some good bets ($3.20 into $2) in the AYC Netball Club Class 1 (1200m) and Jackjack adding some value to the quaddie in the second leg at $13.
Jackjack was resuming from a spell and although it took him 27 starts to break his duck, the 6YO has now won two of his past three outings.
Ismail Toker rode Jackjack to victory and later completed a riding double when Dawn Eagle ($11 into $7.50) stormed home to win the Ladbroke It BM60 over 1100m.
Dawn Eagle has shown a liking for the Hobart circuit and the John Blacker-trained mare came from midfield to grab Tony Nicconi ($4 out to $8) in the shadows of the post, winning narrowly and making it two wins in a row.
