UK stayer Onesmoothoperator has been cleared to start in the Melbourne Cup.
The Brian Ellison-trained galloper was passed fit to be an acceptor for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on Tuesday after undergoing a second veterinary inspection at the Werribee International Horse Centre on Saturday morning.
Onesmoothoperator underwent a veterinary inspection on Friday where a cut to the heel bulb on the right hind leg was detected.
The Racing Victoria veterinary team waited until Onesmoothoperator was re-shod before re-inspecting Onesmoothoperator.
Onesmoothoperator sits on the third line of betting for the Melbourne Cup at $8 on the strength of his win in the Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) on October 23.
The final field with barriers will be declared on Saturday evening while all acceptors in the race will be required to undergo a further veterinary inspection on Monday.
