Well we’re back to Brisbane today after a couple of exciting weeks down at the Gold Coast, but things aren’t getting any easier.
I think we’ll stick with last week’s strategy and find one to place at reasonable odds as a banker.
It may be more of a get-out this week though, with Bingo Rose lining up in the last on the card, currently rated a $2.37 chance to place.
She’s been given four weeks between runs, last seen running on strongly out wide into third spot over this track and trip in similar grade, after getting too far back.
That was behind Believe’n’receive who lines up in race 7 today against a tricky lot, so that should give a good indication of the strength of that form.
Prior to that Bingo Rose was beaten just 2.6L by Love Rocks on resuming, and the form around him has been some of the hottest all summer.
She’ll probably get back again from out wide, but she’s third-up now and has win three times out of four at this stage of her campaign.
It looks like she’s ready to run another big race today, and in all honesty, what’s more fun then cheering home a fast-finishing grey to save your bacon in the last?
Earlier in the day there’s one I’m keen on in the 1200m open sprint.
Only seven runners will line up, with Bymonashee at $5 looking a very attractive proposition.
I really liked the look of his resuming win here three weeks back, coming from well back for a pretty soft win over the 1110m.
He didn’t beat much, but what he did, he did with little fuss.
It backed up the form he displayed at the end of last campaign where he finished only a length off Cape Kidnappers before missing by a head behind Mishani Warrior during his sizzling sequence of wins last campaign.
Don’t be too concerned but his ordinary record over the 1200m either, he hasn’t been over the journey in almost a year and has since won over 1110m, and 1350m.
This is a tricky race but he loves this track and can finish over the top of them.
River Lad is the main danger resuming. He’s the best horse in the race and was beaten a neck in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes last campaign by Howmuchdoyouloveme, which explains the 60.5kg he’s copped in this.
He’s consistent and tends to run well fresh, but does carry 6.5kg more than Bymonashee who will have a bit of a fitness edge.
It looks an intriguing battle.
De Dozen Stars and Signified also rate well for this, although they’re both frustratingly inconsistency.
The one we’re taking on today is John Thompson’s Renewed Vitality who’s come up very short at $2.80 in a tricky looking race over the mile.
He should find this easier than what he’s been up against all campaign, but bear in mind he hasn’t won a race now in 847 days.
He led most the way here over the trip three weeks back before being rounded up by the above-average Black Jet.
The form out of that race though hasn’t really stood up, and it was the only time in seven runs at this track that Renewed Vitality had managed a minor placing.
There’s a few here that look more than capable of beating home the favourite.
Viking Heart gets up to the mile now after three solid runs since resuming, beaten 1.2L at Gold Coast over 1400m two weeks back at his most recent effort.
I’d expect he’ll be coming with a big late run.
Solebid and Achievements also deserve attention, the latter coming off a solid win at Eagle Farm last time.
I wouldn’t think he’d be letting Renewed Vitality get a cheap lead out in front, especially from gate one.
Solebid meanwhile is dropping back in trip for this and has been in pretty good form of late.
Delago Pilli and Trakstar are also capable of winning this, so I’m staying well away from the $2.80 being offered about Renewed Vitality.
