Walter Tests Rising Star At Wyong

3 minute read

Top Sydney trainer Guy Walter will get a better idea of the potential of another of his promising sprinters at Wyong on Tuesday.

Walter is heading to the central coast track with the three year old Alberto Magic for the Twin Lakes Air Benchmark 70 (1000m).

Alberto Magic made an auspicious but worrying debut to racing with a nine lengths win in a 1000m maiden at Canberra on February 23 in smart time.

However, the stewards reported that he was found to have a poor recovery rate after the event and required veterinary treatment.

He has had three weeks to recover but steps up massively in class and against a quality field with a win certain to confirm that he is well above average.

Jeff Penza rode the son of Magic Albert at Canberra and has retained the ride at Wyong.

His rivals In Cahoots, Merry Christmas, Pasadoble and possibly Wonderbolt will all test the up and comer.

In Cahoots, trained at Newcastle by Phillip Atkins, is another three year old in great form with three wins from his only six starts including a first up win in this company, beating the Jason Deamer trained Merry Christmas, at Newcastle 10 days ago.

Lester Grace rides In Cahoots and the last time he and Atkins combined at Wyong they won with Watt Luck.

Merry Christmas has had two starts since a spell for a third at Wyong and a second at Newcastle and both have been in this company.

The Kris Lees trained Pasadoble comes back from resuming in a Benchmark 80 in Sydney Saturday company to provincial class and has the services of Brenton Avdulla.

Last time in Pasadoble showed plenty of promise with three wins from her only four starts.

The Anthony Cummings trained Wonderbolt (Hugh Bowman) is the mystery horse.

He has been undergoing remedial work to cure his barrier manners plus he pulled up with a poor recovery rate after his last start last at Canterbury on February 21.

Prior to that he resumed with a second at Wyong when ridden by Bowman.
