Gun Case has shown plenty of ability in his short career and will be hard to hold out again when lining up at Doomben on Saturday.
The lightly raced four-year-old steps out in the Novotel Brisbane Airports 0MW, (Race 2 #10) having been good in both career runs to date.
The Liam Birchly-trained runner finished fifth behind Cosmic Endeavour on debut at Rosehill before a spell and resumed with an easy 3.3L win at Coffs Harbour last start.
Gun Case takes on tougher company today but is likely to improve again and with only 54kg to carry looks the one they have to beat.
Glen Colless stays on board and the son of War Pass, who rates well on weight adjusted Timeform ratings looks destined for bigger things this preparation.
Gun Case is likely to not be far away from barrier 4 and the step up to 1200m for the first time should not be an issue and despite being backed in to a short price of $1.90 should dually salute.
Later in the day Hora Sexta lines up in a competitive looking affair (Race 6 #6) and is currently at very good each way odds of $18/$4.60.
The five-year-old gelding has been in pretty good form of late, running a close third to Oak ‘N’ Arthur at Doomben before running wide throughout when sixth behind L’Entrecote at Eagle Farm.
Hora Sexta meets L’ectrecote significantly better at the weights and he has a pretty handy record at Doomben.
L’ectrecote will certainly take beating once again but the current price of Hora Sexta looks very tempting on the back of some good form of late.
Jim Byrne goes back on bad which is an important jockey change and with onl5 54.5kg to carry he should be running on very strongly over the final stages.
Last week saw the Eagle Farm meeting cancelled after three races with our play of the day being scratched from the third race. Good luck.
