Trainer Kim Waugh has a long term plan to target the 2015 Provincial Championship with Dylan’s Rojo, who takes the next step towards that goal at Wyong on Sunday.
Dylan’s Rojo will be aiming for his third win from four starts this preparation with Jay Ford his new rider.
“The Championship has been in the back of our mind for a while,” Waugh said.“He is a horse that continues to improve and if he keeps making that progress he would have to be competitive in the Championship.
“We will keep racing him then give him a freshen up to get him ready for the Wyong heat.”The first heat of the recently announced Provincial Championship, worth $100,000, will be run over 1350m at Wyong on March 5 with the $300,000 final at Randwick on April 11.
Dylan’s Rojo resumed with a maiden win at Hawkesbury last month then followed that up with a close second at Newcastle before leading all the way to win at Newcastle on October 11 over 1400m.Waugh will also start Mi Lads Princess and Bully Bully on Sunday. Both will be ridden by Taylor Marshall.
My Lads Princess will wear blinkers for the first time after her fourth at Muswellbrook.“She is still very green and floats all over the place,” Waugh said .
Bully Bully has been unplaced in two starts since resuming and is, according to Waugh, a work in progress.“He is on a quick back up from Gosford but he is a big, gross horse and I am trying to trim him down,” Waugh said.
