Best From The West - March 26

3 minute read

The Grant Williams trained Truly Gold couldn't have been more impressive winning at York last start and appears well placed to notch up back to back wins at Ascot on Saturday.

Having caught the eye at all three runs to begin this preparation, Truly Gold displayed sharp improvement with the blinkers on for the first time winning easily over 1920m.

Ridden further forward than in previous efforts Truly Gold simply toyed with his rivals and notably returned time figures well ahead of the bare form.

Truly Gold's closing sectional was closer to six lengths inside standard and in beating his older rivals, he conceded weight to all bar two.

While some may dismiss a win at York as good form, fact is Truly Gold returned a new career peak and profiles very well for the seventh event on Saturday.

His second win from seven starts, Truly Gold is clearly heading in the right direction and appears set to relish the extra trip.

Leading rider William Pike sticks aboard having placed in two of four attempts — this season Pike is striking at a notable 34 per cent when combined with the Williams stable.

While drawn a touch awkwardly, Truly Gold appears very well placed at the weights and with a three length winning margin up his sleeve he is clearly capable of taking that next step.

As much as $4.20 is being offered about his chances early doors which appears well over the odds.

We have him marked closer to a 6-4 chance and do expect him to start inside 3-1.

Unlike a majority of his rivals who have already reached their respective marks, Truly Gold is progressive and remains open to good improvement moving forward - we suggest you bet up!

Talented mare Wink And A Nod finally gets the weight swing in her favour and appears well placed to return to the winner's stall in the fifth event.

On paper her form appears below par, however both performances have held plenty of merit and she appears set to peak racing third up.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings she is clearly the one to beat and with 5-2 being offered about her chances we are more than happy to play.

As a side note, TopBetta will offer a minimum of $25K for BMW Stakes Day and while Ascot won't play a part it is definitely worth checking out - Click Here .
