Best From The West - April 8

3 minute read

The Jim Taylor trained More Aces has continued to impress this time in and appears well placed to defeat the older horses in the fifth event at Ascot on Saturday.

A winner of five of his eight starts, More Aces proved very game in defeat last start when only narrowly edged out with the big weight.

Successful in returning a new career peak, More Aces appears poised to return to the winner's stall with senior rider Jason Brown back aboard.

Admittedly he steps up in grade, however he is very well placed at the weights and has drawn to receive all the favours.

Likely to either lead or sit just off the speed, More Aces should prove very hard to hold out.

As much as $3.70 was offered about his chances early doors with $3.20 the best price available.

We have marked inside 6/4 and hence more than happy to bet up at the price.

More Aces is a very promising three-year-old and we certainly expect him to make his presence felt on Saturday.

The scratching of star filly Royal Star leaves stablemate Very Tempting the warm favourite on Saturday and we are more than happy to side her way.

Aided by a peach of a ride from Chris Parnham, Very Tempting upstaged Royal Star in the Oaks and now appears well placed to clinch the Oaks/Derby double.

She remains the top pick on ratings, as the fillies look to have the edge this season.

Royal Star had plenty of time to run down Very Tempting in the Oaks, and an argument can be made that Very Tempting simply outstayed her.

That appears the superior form line and she should prove very hard to beat.
